Timber Protection

The Biological research of wood and it’s renewable material is what is referred to as wood science. In other words, the term wood science can also be known as wood technology. Wood is treated as a material in direct comparison with other products. The wood is checked against the other materials properties, performances, value, and work-ability. The utilization of technology gives wood an upper hand in most of this comparison. The wide range of products where wood can be used is just one of the many advantages that give wood an upper hand over other products. Wood is renewable, and this makes it more precious. All the parts of wood can be put into use, and this makes it a better fit than other materials which most of their byproducts are a waste.

The good appearance of your timber made structure cannot be guaranteed if protection of the timber is not done. Wooden structures have to be kept away from water and pests that eat through the wood. The moisture courses the timber to decay and the insects eat through the wood. Many methods are available in the treatment of wood one of the most common being the ACQ – alkaline copper Quaternary. As the name implies the preservative is made of copper products. Although being a good method to use for wood protection it has presents some few challenges. It has been seen corroding most metals for example aluminum in less than six months of its application. The saturation level of any treatment will depend on where the wood is going to be used and the species of the wood. Timber being used around a water body will be dipped in a more saturated fluid than that being used above ground.

The use of copper metal is another method of wood treatment that is fast being accepted. This method is being accepted fast because is friendly to wooden fasteners. This process is what in other words called the micronized copper wood preservative. In this process microscopic particles of solid copper metal are mixed in a liquid carrier and injected to the wood at high pressure. The difference between this method and the other copper-based methods is that the copper is used as a metal rather than a dissolved material. When this process is used to treat timber the timber properties are increased highly. The timber treated in this way is used in both outdoor and indoor frames that last very long.

Termites cannot eat through timber treated through this method. It has also shown to be an improvement in corrosion resistant properties to metal fasteners. Extensive research over a period of 10 years has proven the effectiveness of this science as one of the best wood preservation methods.
